Frequently Asked Questions
What is BookAmor?
BookAmor is a modern discovery tool that helps library patrons quickly find read-alikes, watch-alikes, listen-alikes, and play-alikes across Books, eBooks, Audiobooks, Movies & TV, Music, Magazines & Newspapers, and Video Games. It’s fast, intuitive, library-branded, multilingual, and designed specifically for public libraries.
BookAmor is advisory-first: it helps patrons discover what they might enjoy next, then sends them back to your library’s existing catalog or discovery layer to check holdings, availability, and access options.
Who is BookAmor for?
BookAmor is built for public library patrons of all ages, including adults, kids, tweens, and teens, and for librarians who want an attractive advisory tool that covers multiple media formats in one place.
Does BookAmor support multiple languages?
Yes. BookAmor supports multilingual discovery in English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Tagalog, Arabic, French, Ukrainian, Russian, Portuguese, and Hindi.
What does multilingual support include?
Multilingual support includes the BookAmor patron interface, librarian-style recommendation notes, language-appropriate title suggestions when patrons search from within a supported language, and PDF discussion guides generated from within that language interface. Catalog records, holdings information, availability, and local catalog display language remain controlled by your library’s own catalog.
If a patron searches in another language, will BookAmor recommend titles in that language?
Yes. When a patron enters a seed title in the selected interface language, BookAmor can return recommended titles in that language as part of the multilingual discovery experience.
Does BookAmor require patrons to create an account?
No. BookAmor is completely account-free, and patrons can use it instantly without registration.
How does BookAmor generate recommendations?
BookAmor recommendations come from curated title relationships, thematic similarity, metadata, and category-based relevance. Each result includes a short note explaining the match in clear, librarian-style language. When patrons are using one of BookAmor’s supported language interfaces, those notes can appear in that language as well.

Does BookAmor support kids, tweens, teens, and adults?
Yes. BookAmor supports advisory experiences for adults, kids, tweens, and teens, helping libraries provide age-aware discovery across supported formats.
Does BookAmor integrate with our library catalog?
Yes. Each recommendation includes a Find in Library link that directs patrons to your catalog using your OPAC link template.
Can BookAmor work with an existing discovery layer such as BiblioCommons?
Yes. BookAmor is designed to work alongside existing catalogs and discovery layers, including systems such as BiblioCommons, when suitable catalog or search link patterns are available. The goal is not to replace your discovery layer, but to give patrons another advisory pathway into it.
How is BookAmor different from BiblioCommons or a full catalog discovery layer?
A full discovery layer is usually centered on the catalog experience: searching records, showing availability, managing holds, connecting to e-content, and supporting account-based patron activity. BookAmor is more focused. It is an advisory-first layer that helps patrons find related titles and media across formats, age levels, and supported interface languages, then directs them back to the catalog for ownership, availability, and borrowing.
Does BookAmor replace BiblioCommons or another discovery layer?
No. BookAmor is not intended to replace a full catalog or discovery layer. It can sit beside your existing catalog, website, or discovery platform as a focused readers’ advisory and media advisory tool.
Is BookAmor a lighter version of a discovery layer?
Not exactly. BookAmor is narrower by design, but not simply a reduced catalog. It focuses on the advisory moment: “What should I read, watch, listen to, or play next?” A catalog or discovery layer answers the next question: “Does my library own it, and how can I access it?”
How does BookAmor avoid duplicating what our catalog already does?
BookAmor does not try to reproduce your catalog, replace your item records, manage patron accounts, or display live availability. Instead, it creates curated advisory pathways and sends patrons into your existing catalog when they are ready to look for a specific item.
What are the main differences libraries should understand?
BookAmor is advisory-first, cross-format, all-ages, multilingual, account-free, and catalog-connected. Full discovery layers are broader catalog platforms. BookAmor is a focused service that helps patrons discover appealing titles and media, then points them back to the library’s own catalog or discovery layer.
Does BookAmor show whether we own an item?
No. BookAmor is not a holdings database and does not claim that a recommended item is owned or currently available. Your catalog remains the source of truth for holdings and availability.
Is any technical setup required?
No technical setup is required. BookAmor works alongside your existing catalog and uses catalog links rather than requiring ILS integration, catalog indexing, or changes to your ILS configuration.
Does BookAmor require ILS integration?
No. BookAmor does not require direct ILS integration. Because it links patrons back into your existing catalog or discovery layer, setup is usually much simpler than implementing a new catalog platform.
Does BookAmor offer Book Discussion Guides?
Yes. Patrons and staff can generate printable Book Discussion Guides (PDFs) for any title. Choose a guide type (Standard, Educator Edition, or One-Page Quick Guide), select optional sections such as accessibility notes, educator questions, or a “spoilers-allowed” deep discussion section, and download a ready-to-use guide for book clubs, programs, classrooms, outreach, and staff preparation.
Are Book Discussion Guides multilingual?
Yes. When a patron or staff member creates a PDF guide from within one of BookAmor’s supported language interfaces, the guide is generated in that language. For example, a Spanish-language BookAmor session can produce a Spanish-language PDF guide, and a French-language session can produce a French-language guide.
Does BookAmor include an AI-assisted feature?
Yes. Libraries can enable the optional AI Reading Aide, which can summarize books or films, explain recommendations, suggest similar authors or creators, and answer advisory-style questions.
Does BookAmor store any personal information?
No. BookAmor is entirely account-free and does not store personal data, patron profiles, or saved reading histories.
How is BookAmor different from account-based discovery services?
Some discovery services include account-based features, patron lists, ratings, reviews, saved histories, or personalized activity. BookAmor takes a simpler privacy-forward approach: patrons can receive recommendations without creating an account, logging in, or building a personal reading profile.
Can BookAmor be accessed outside the library?
Yes. BookAmor supports in-library, remote, or hybrid access depending on your preferred access method.
How much staff time does BookAmor require?
None after setup. BookAmor is fully hosted and maintained by Pronunciator LLC. No local installation or ongoing updates are required.
How is BookAmor priced?
Pricing is based on population served, consistent with standard public library licensing models. Quotes are fast and straightforward.
Do you offer consortium pricing?
Yes. BookAmor is fully consortium-friendly, with discounted multi-library pricing and flexible access options for statewide and regional groups.
Can librarians get trial access?
Yes. We provide free, no-obligation trial access for librarians evaluating the service. In many cases, we can set up a working demo connected to your catalog so staff can test BookAmor in your own discovery environment, including recommendations, catalog links, multilingual discovery, and printable PDF guide generation.
